Ph.D. PROGRAMME AT SOA UNIVERSITY
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR ADMISSION INTO Ph.D. PROGRAMME
Candidates who have studied in Full time Regular Education are alone eligible to apply.
- Ph.D in Engineering & Basic Sciences:
Master's degree in Engineering/Technology & Basic Scie-nces in the relevant discipline with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class
or
Equivalent qualifications like M.Sc. (Engineering) / M.S. [By Research.]
- Ph.D. in Computer Science :
MCA / M.Sc. Computer Science with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class
MBA with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class
A candidate should have M.Pharm/MS(Pharm)/Masters in a relevant discipline of Pharmacy or equivalent with atleast 60% aggregate or equivalent. Also the candidate should have valid GATE/NET scores for several disciplines. Those in their final year can also apply.
Master degree in Biotechnology / Industrial Biotechnology with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class
- Ph.D. in Medical Sciences
Master degree in Medical with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class
Master degree in Dental with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class
Master in Nursing with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class
- Ph.D. in Hotel Management & Catering Technology :
Master in Hospitality and Tourism Management (MHTM) with a first class or a minimum of 60% marks/CGPA 6.5 on a 10 point scale in cases where the University/Institute does not award any class
CATEGORIES AND ELIGIBILITY
Internal Full Time Candidates:
A candidate who wishes to work for Ph.D on full time basis (including project staff working in sponsored projects being carried out at the Institute) should apply in the prescribed form.
MINIMUM PERIOD OF REGISTRATION
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D)
The minimum period of study and research from the date of registration for the Ph.D programme to the date of submission of thesis will be 24 months for full-time research scholars.
SELECTION PROCEDURE
The candidates, who satisfy the criteria prescribed, will be called for an written test / interview to be conducted at the University. Selection will be based on the previous academic performance and the performance in the interview. Preference will be given to the candidates with a valid GATE / NET scores.
FEES
- Admission Fee (one time): Rs. 2,000/-
- Registration Fee (one time): Rs. 3,000/-
- Thesis Submission (one time): Rs. 4,000/-
- Annual Tuition Fee: Rs. 5,000/-
- Annual Student Activities Fee: Rs. 7,000/-
- Recurring Expenditure for research (one time): Rs. 10,000/-
(Pharmacy & Biotechnology only)
(To be paid at the time of submission of Synopsis & Thesis/Dissertation)

The Candidates selected for admission have to pay the fees as per the information brochure, through a Demand Draft only. The Demand Draft should be drawn in favour of “SIKSHA O ANUSANDHAN UNIVERSITY”, payable at Bhubaneswar.
JOINING THE RESEARCH PROGRAMME
The candidates admitted to Ph.D programme will have to report by 1st April, 2010 to the Director (R&C) concerned. All the original documents / certificates should be produced for verification at the time of joining.
SCHEME OF RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
The scheme envisages providing financial assistance of Rs. 15,000/- to the candidates recruited under this scheme and encourage them to earn their Ph.D. degree at SOA University within 24 months.
The amount of Research Assistantship would be as follows:
Post-Graduates in Engineering, Technology & Management (consolidated):- Rs.15,000/- per month (Consolidated)
Graduates in Engineering & Technology and Post-Graduates in Science, Computer Applications and Commerce (M.Sc., M.C.A and M.Com.) - Rs.10,000/- per month (consolidated)
The duration of the award would be as follows:
Post-Graduates in Engineering, Technology & Management and M.Phil. degree holders registered for Ph.D degree: Three Years
Post-Graduates in sciences registered for Ph.D degree: Three Years
The awardees would be governed by the service rules of SOA University, the regulations for research conferment at SOA University and specific conditions of the Assistantships.
In lieu of the research fellowship the candidate will be given a teaching / lab load equivalent to 9 hours per week.
OTHER INFORMATION
Hostel accommodation is available on campus as per University norms for boys and girls. All suits and actions arising out of or relating to SOA University shall be instituted within the jurisdiction of courts at Bhubaneswar, Orissa.
